October is here and my goodness we have some fantastic things happening here at Crafty Betty I am having to pinch myself:-) Sew Saturday is our big event on 17th October, we have some brilliant new classes, new members of the team and a Celebrity from BBC One’s Great British Sewing Bee will be joining us in January to teach the people of Newark Beginners Dressmaking!
Join us on the day for a fantastic afternoon of all things crafty with FREE bunting workshops, demonstrations, craft stalls, Goodie Bags and the highlight of the day is the announcement of the results of our Sewing Bee competitions that you have been working on. We have had lots on entries and there is still time to enter. Children can WIN a Craft Birthday Party and the Adults could WIN a course on Fibre Arts/Free Machining. The team is expanding
We are now opening the top floor of our premises too and we are delighted that we have two new members joining the Crafty Betty Team. Rachael Cumberland and Julie Webster will be running Crafty Corner where you can come and do workshops in Scrapbooking, Crochet, Jewellery Making, Felting, and something we love – making Rag Rugs! They will also be running a six week Christmas Crafting Workshop for just £10 per session with the 6th session free if purchased in advance. We are taking bookings for these two brilliant new courses that I am sure will agree sound excellent! Soapology are coming to teach an all day Soap Making Class on 15th November where you will learn the science behind the making and make some soap of your own! They will be set in time for you to use as Christmas Presents! You also get a yummy lunch from Tea Pots Tea Room!
On 17th January Wildgoose Designs are bringing their Lampshade making class to us. Come and learn how to make a lampshade and produce one in the session. What a brilliant skill to learn!
Both workshops include all materials, tuition and Gift Vouchers are available.

Half Term Craft Club
You can book your child place on our Craft Club this October Half Term via our website. This half term we will be having a Halloween theme and will be making some lovely things for the children to take home including a Halloween Wreath to place on your door. Crochet a Poppy with Nina
Our Monday Crochet group are starting to make Poppies for Remembrance Sunday so if you want to join in pop along on Monday 12 noon – 2pm and learn how to make one. Its £7.50 including tea/coffee and a delicious cupcake!
And now for the big announcement……………..
Fans of the Great British Sewing Bee will LOVE our special guest tutor we are welcoming to Crafty Betty in January! Heather Jacks won the BBC One Series in 2014 and she has agreed to come to our studios to run a one day Dressmaking Course. This is brilliant news for Crafty Betty and we are very excited to be welcoming her.
Plans are currently being put in place but we are provisionally looking at Friday 29th January 2016. Everyone that books onto the course will receive a FREE refresher or Beginners Sewing Machine Class worth £25 to be taken prior to the class at a time to suit. Heather will be teaching participants how to insert zips and buttonholes, read a pattern, cut out the fabric then working from a pattern that is included in the course fee you will make a garment to wear and take home. A delicious lunch will be provided by Tea Pots Tea Room in The Arcade and tea/coffee will be served throughout the day.
If you are interested in this fantastic opportunity to learn from a celebrity sewer places will be limited so you need to get your name down quickly. The price will be £99 including the Beginners Sewing Machine Class, The Beginners Dressmaking Class, Lunch on the day, use of a sewing machine (or you may bring your own), your pattern and unlimited tea/coffee/soft drink. You just need to bring the fabric of your choice which we will advise of on booking. You can book the session with a £25 deposit and pay the balance on the day.
